Tenderfeet: New Building Gallery

These are pictures of the new Tenderfeet school. A lease has been signed for one year. Though it's a bit rough around the edges, the building will mean the school has a reliable and steady location for the coming year.

There are six rooms in all, but only four will be used at this point.

Three rooms will be used as classrooms, and one will be used as a kitchen.

The two other rooms not yet completed may serve as additional teaching space in the future.

Generous donations by Kathy Switzer and friends have paid for windows and running water. Read more about Kathy's visit here.

The charity Tigers Go assisted with wall construction costs.

Water and Windows (May 31, 2007)
Kathy and Frank admire the wonderful
flow of water.
An elevated pipe and faucet will be fitted
for accessibility. This water will aid in food
preparation and hygeine for the children
Edwin applies the sealing putty around the glass.

Classes Resume in New Building (May 4, 2007)
Entrance to new building. A red
oxide primer has been applied to
prevent rust.
Teacher Maggie and Mama Margaret
plan the lessons for the day.

Finishing Classrooms (April 27th)
A completed classroom. Ready at
last for the kids to start school!
Edwin installs overhead lighting. In
the past, kids had to rely on sun-
light coming through the wall cracks.

Plywood Installation (April 25th)
Mike, a volunteer, works on the walls.
He's a guardian of a former Tenderfeet
student and wanted to help.
The plywood will protect the children
from dangerous exposed metal walls.

Installation of the Floors (April 12th)
A shot of the dirt floors, soon to be
covered in cement. These floors would
turn to mud every heavy rain.
Edwin helps get the ball rolling.
A sealing layer is installed.
What a relief to have this important
step completed!

Lease-Signing Day (March 23rd)
Mama Margaret (right) stands with the
landlord in a future classroom. All rooms
are 10x12 feet.
Clearly, much work remains for some
of the rooms.
Another unfinished area. This will be
used later.
