School Opening Ceremony

There was much excitement amongst the children and the pride was obvious in Mama Margaret’s face at the official opening Ceremony of the new Tenderfeet school.

It’s been a long journey with many setbacks but faith in success was never lost. It couldn’t have been possible without the generosity and continuous support of the Collette Foundation.  The Foundation has been instrumental in the funding of the purchase of the new plot of land for Tenderfeet that is large enough to hold the school buildings as well as a playground for the children.  The school buildings were also constructed through the support of Collette.

The Collette Foundation is a non-profit associated with Collette Vacations.  From time to time, Collette brings visitors to Tenderfeet to meet the children.

In attendance were just such a group of visitors, the Tenderfeet students, teachers, and few invited guests.

The new school is located now in Riruta, a suburb just outside of Kibera and the environment is wonderful for the children. With more space than they have ever had, the children can learn and play and run and enjoy fresh air.  This is in stark contrast to the former facility in Kibera, which was literally located in the middle of a junkyard.

Below are a few photos of the opening ceremony, taken by Lahash representative Edwin Angote. Thank you to everyone from the Collette Foundation, those that helped with the building and all our supporters who have helped make this dream come true.
